OH Green TeamSophomores Eleanor Szyperski, Sophie Heidenreich, and Reagan Clarke were recognized for raising more than $50,000 during a seven-week fundraising challenge to benefit The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society (LLS).

Participating under the name “OH Green Team,” the students attended the recent awards gala with their honored “Hero” of the evening: cancer survivor Camryn Rufenacht. Camryn was 10 when she was diagnosed and underwent two and a half years of treatment. She is now 16 and a sophomore at Bedford high school and in remission.

“We have grown a strong friendship with her over these past seven weeks and hope to carry on the relationship,” said Eleanor.

Christi Ansberg, an OH parent and chair of the Toledo Advisory Board of LLS, assisted in presenting the “Legacy Award” to the girls. The Legacy Award goes to area schools who have participated in the challenge for four or more years.

Also in attendance and serving as generous donors to the OH Green Team were OH parents Lori and Paul Fenton who personally experienced the difficult challenges families face when their daughter Amy was diagnosed with cancer last year. Amy recently finished chemotherapy and is doing well.

The OH Green Team would like to thank their donors from the Village of Ottawa Hills, especially Jeff MacMillan from Thermodyn, Michael McCullough from UBS Financial Services, and Megan Meinerding from Victory Automotive Group as well as Camryn.

Special thanks to Jackie Patterson, Junior/Senior High School assistant principal, who represented the school at the award gala. Congratulations to the Green Team!
