Congratulations to the Ottawa Hills swim teams for their performances this weekend (Feb. 12-13) at the state sectionals swim meet.
The girls’ team set a new school record in the 200 free relay (breaking the record set in 2015). Relay members were Zoe McCarthy (9), sophomores Annika Padhye and Liz Lathrop, and Sophia Stone (12).
The girls’ medley relay team missing setting a new school record by 2 seconds. The team consisted of Liz Lathrop (9) on back, Annika Padhye (10) on breast, Zoe McCarthy (9) on fly, and Sophia Stone (12) on free. Good luck to these ladies as they try to make it to the state meet and break the school record set in 2015.
Still, their time was fast enough to qualify for the state district swim meet Friday (Feb. 19) at Bowling Green State University. Next up after districts: the state meet.
Last weekend’s performance was the first time ever any girls’ relay or individual has qualified for the district meet.
Zoe McCarthy was also the first swimmer in school history to qualify for the state District meet in an individual event. She qualified in both the 200 individual medley and 100 free.
Big congrats to Karsyn Ruth (10) who recorded personal records in the 50 and 100 free.
This year’s members of the girls’ swim team also included to all the girls that participated in Swim this year. The girls team is composed of Kathryn Allen (9), Colleen Kelley (9), Reagan Clarke (11), Molly McCracken (11), Ellie Kieser (11), Meghan Rownd (12), and Hope Schaefer (12).
Although no boys advanced to districts, the team overall had a great sectional meet.
Riley Nixon (9) set personal records in the 50 and 100 free. Rayyan Alvi (10) and Zack Maaieh (12) also had personal records at sectionals, too. Congratulations to the other members of the boys team: Michael Kelley (9), Kenan Maaieh (10), and Anthony Packo. (9).
