Volleyball team celebrating

It’s time again for the girls’ volleyball program to raise awareness about breast cancer through its “Volley for the Cause” fundraiser. The girls, their parents, and coaches are organizing events to benefit the nonprofit organization METAvivor.

The fundraising culminates with two matches Tuesday, Sept. 22, at the Junior/Senior High School. The junior varsity girls play at 5:30 p.m.; the varsity at 6:45 p.m. Both matches are against the Northwood Rangers.

Our athletes are seeking donations based upon the number of aces and kills they score. (Donations in all other forms are also welcome as well as through the METAvivor website). At the game, any donation over $5 will receive a sweet treat from Ottawa Hills’ own Village Patisserie (while supplies last). Owner Erica Scharer has graciously agreed to donate individually wrapped cookies as a treat for donations above that amount.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, attendance is limited to only a few tickets per athlete. For those able to attend, wear your pink, green or blue! The game will be broadcast by BCSN; it also will be streamed live on Instagram at Ottawa Hills Inside Edge. Village resident Anne French, who is living with metastatic breast cancer, will sing the national anthem.

METAvivor brings awareness to metastatic breast cancer and provides research funding for Stage 4/metastatic breast cancer. A diagnosis of Stage 4/metastatic breast cancer is not considered survivable and almost 40,000 men and women die of it each year.
