The Ottawa Hills Dance Team competed in regionals at Anthony Wayne High School Sunday (Feb. 9). Their routines were evaluated for stage presence, creativity, technique, and overall performance. They qualified for the state competition in Hip Hop, Pom and Jazz.
"The dancers have been working so hard these last few months to put their best foot forward during competition season," said Coach Taylor Bush. "This year, we chose to compete in all three dance categories (Jazz, Pom, and Hip Hop), which is something that the school has not done in a few years. We are excited to work hard these next two weeks to do our best at the state competition! This is a strong, hardworking group of young women. I am very proud of the dancers and young ladies that they are!"
The state competition is Saturday, Feb. 29, at Pickerington High School in Columbus.
“Something that allows our team to find success in our performances, along with our dancing in general, is the strong bond we hold as a team both in and outside of practice,” said senior Amelia Frueh. “Not only do we share a deep passion for maintaining a hard work ethic and desire to continue improving as a team, we also are a family at the core of it all, and will always have each other's backs through everything and anything.”
“We are super excited and honored to be heading to States this year because this is the first year in a few seasons that the team has gone on to compete in the Hip Hop category, and we simply cannot wait to demonstrate all the work we have been putting in throughout the year, ultimately leaving it all on the dance floor,” Amelia added. “Also, thank you so much to everyone who has showed their support for the team this season and in the past, we could not do what we do without you all!”
In addition to Amelia, other Dance Team members are Danielle Keil (12), Sophia Stone (11), Gabrielle Suhy (9), Sarah Keil (10), Elizabeth Koury (10), Sophia Heidenreich (10), Cassie Davis (9), and Sydney Mack (9).
