Welcome to our school district website!

Ottawa Hills School District is a small suburban district with an enrollment of approximately 1000 students housed in two buildings: an elementary school for grades K-6 and a junior/senior high school for grades 7-12. The district provides a rigorous, challenging curriculum in a safe, supportive, engaging environment. All teachers are highly qualified. There is a dedicated support staff that is committed to student success.
Administrators and teachers work collaboratively to provide effective instruction. Student achievement is our top priority. Decisions are made on the basis of what is best for students. Our goal is to maximize learning for every child.

In August 2009, the Ohio Department of Education released the annual Local Report Card (LRC) for the 2008-2009 school year indicating that Ottawa Hills School District achieved the rank of second in the state. This ranking is based on the Performance Index (PI), a weighted average that includes the achievement level of every student on every state test for grades 3 through 8 and 10.

Our PI of 109.8 out of a possible 120 placed Ottawa Hills as second in student performance. Wyoming City Schools near Cincinnati was first with 110.0. In 2008, Ottawa Hills was first; in 2007, third; and in 2006, second. The district has a history of strong student achievement and has been among the best districts in Ohio for many years.

Ottawa Hills has also consistently been rated “Excellent” by the state. On the LRC for 2008-2009, the district met 30 out of 30 performance indicators and earned the rating of “Excellent with Distinction.” This designation was developed to recognize high-performing school districts and buildings. It is earned when a district or school has achieved the “Excellent” rating and has also exceeded value-added progress goals. Districts that are rated “with Distinction” have averaged more than one year’s growth, or progress, for all students for each of the past two school years.

Our schools have all the factors that contribute to strong student achievement. We have students who come to school ready to learn; experienced teachers who are committed to student success; involved parents who believe education is a top priority; and a supportive community that provides the resources necessary for an effective learning environment. There is a climate of high expectations and a culture of continuous improvement.

The community has demonstrated a long history of strong support for its schools through involvement in school activities, countless hours of volunteer work, and financial support. We extend our appreciation and gratitude to the many students, parents, staff members, board members, and village residents who have contributed to our tradition of excellence.
