Ottawa Hills Schools Selects New Superintendent
The Ottawa Hills Board of Education has selected Dr. Kevin S. Miller as the next superintendent of Ottawa Hills Schools. The Board was assisted in the search process by the Lucas County Educational Service Center. The action to employ Dr. Miller took place at a special Board meeting held on June 10.

Dr. Miller has served as the superintendent in Hicksville Village Schools, Hicksville, Ohio, since 2003. Prior to being in his current position, he was the assistant principal at the district’s elementary school. He also served as principal at Wayne Trace Junior/Senior High School for six years. Dr. Miller began his career in education teaching high school English for 13 years at Wayne Trace. He has been in education for 27 years.

Hicksville Village Schools has earned an Excellent rating on the state of Ohio Local Report Card. It is similar in size to Ottawa Hills with an enrollment of 1,065 and 115 employees. Dr. Miller is familiar with the challenges of a small school district. He spearheaded the passage of four levies and one bond issue in his first six years as superintendent. He led the design development and oversaw the construction of a new $28.5 million Pre-K through 12th grade building for the district. He has led strategic planning for continuous improvement, technology, and athletic facilities plans for Hicksville.

Dr. Miller received a Bachelor of Science degree at Defiance College, a Master of Science degree at Indiana University/Purdue University at Fort Wayne, the superintendent certification at the University of Dayton, and a Doctorate of Education in organizational leadership from Nova Southeastern University, Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Dr. Miller is looking forward to the opportunity to team with a school district and a community of people who share the same passion and vision for excellence that he does.

The new superintendent was selected from a field of 20 applicants. The Board interviewed seven semifinalists on May 26. Two finalists participated in group interviews with teachers and support staff, parents and community members, and administrators prior to the School Board’s final interview sessions on June 7. Dr. Miller will begin his service to the district on August 1.

The Board looks forward to a smooth transition to the superintendent’s position with the selection of Dr. Miller and the continued service of Superintendent Cathleen Heidelberg through July 31.
