Superintendent Announces Retirement in 2010
After nearly forty years as a mathematics teacher and an administrator, Superintendent Cathleen Heidelberg has announced that she is planning to retire this school year. Due to a personal family commitment, she will officially retire on March 30, 2010. In order to maintain continuity and stability and to provide a smooth transition to a new superintendent, she has offered to return to serve in the position through the end of the school year and the summer months, as necessary. This plan would enable her to provide leadership to the district for the superintendent search process, the development of the budget for 2010-2011, the recruitment and selection of new teachers in the spring, the close of the school year, preliminary preparations for the November 2010 operating levy, and the orientation of the new superintendent. The Board has decided to move forward with this plan for an orderly transition to a new superintendent. The goal is to have an individual in the position no later than August 1, 2010.
Ms. Heidelberg started her teaching career in 1970 as a secondary school mathematics teacher. She has been an administrator in Ottawa Hills Schools since 1988, serving as the Director of Curriculum (1988-1999 and 2000-2002), Interim Superintendent (1999-2000), Assistant Superintendent of Instruction and Technology (2002-2006), and Superintendent (2006 to the present).
